Queen Ramaya

Adopted at age six from Brazil, Ramaya (aka Rosa Maya) came to America already knowing how to Samba. Through her adolescence she took classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and salsa. At age 13 her performing experiences began. Dancing at Miss America Pageant with instructor Ruben Aponte as her partner. At age 14 her Carnaval experiences began with Instructor Carlos Acietuno of Fogo Na Roupa. After Carlos’s passing in 2006 Ramaya took on the leadership role with Fogo creating choreography, and in 2015 was crowned San Francisco's Queen Of Carnival. She has also danced with Amor do Samba and Energia do Samba. Currently Ramaya is most focused on giving to communities that lack resources. She uses dance to help heal systemic traumas and inspires her students to be the best versions of themselves through mental, physical and spiritual guidance.
